Initial Type Studies

I like to set a wordmark in all its possible case settings and spacing, then run through a big dump of typefaces that on first glance could be appropriate. There's also some initial play with orientation and relationship of sonar to pilot. There's always a struggle for me when it comes to "voice" or personality of the type, the more expressive faces seem great at first setting, but often seem too loud and self aware when set in context with image, content & color. As you can see my initial round is a nice sturdy grotesk sans serif. Click for the full-sized image. Red dots are typeface I find especially appropriate or formally strong.
